Gilles Perriere started his career as fashion photographer at the age of 22 years while he was studying History of Literature. If in the early years he prefers the studio work that teaches him rigour, he does not take long to photograph his models in outdoor locations, carefully selected for their particular atmospheres : empty houses, closed factories, palaces rooms. So, models are not simply anonymous bodies wearing haute couture, they become characters with own personality in a game of appearances. Along his series, created as real visual stories, his precised approach of life and details leads him naturally to reportage. It stops Fashion photography after seven years of creative research with fashion designers, and turns to development of large ethnographic reportages. Following the tradition of Humanist photography, he observes and illustrates the complex relationship existing between individuals within a social, professional or ethnic group traversing most of the time difficult trials : wars, exodes, diseases, extreme poverty. Gilles Perriere photographes in the early 90s the survival conditions of homeless people in France, the refugees during the war in ex-Yougoslavia, the organization of medical emergency structures during the war of Bosnia, among others. Between two travels, he realizes reportages for state institutions as Senat, Conseil d'Etat, Cour des Comptes. Then, he is represented by Sipa Press since 1994 for some reportages and international press illustration. His reportages are published in Europe and the United-States. Today, Gilles Perriere has cleared his photographic research from commercial contingencies related previously to the publication in press. He directs his approach to an artistic personal expression in fine art photography for funds collectors. In addition, he teaches photojournalism and visual communication in Paris since 2001. His last pursuits are in : Still-life for collectors and High Fashion designers, and series of women portraits.
